Chapter one ‘’Trav, Trav wake up’’ my little sister shook me, ‘’Go away!’’ I said, I just got from practice and not ready for her nonsense, ‘’what!’’ I asked, finally sit up, ‘’some people are moving next door’’ she said jumping around, the last person that rent the house next door was best friend Juan, his parents move after his big brother Pedro got shot, now what, I look through my room window which I can see my neighbored living room, that’s cool right, back then me and Juan would write sign to each other when out parents grounding us from going outside and used the computer, well a boy have to find a way to talk to his homeboys. ‘’Yo Trav! Come out here’’ my new best friend Darrell a trouble maker, ‘’Hold up’’ I call out, putting a shirt on, put a sandal on and walk in front of my house, me and my homeboy Darrell have friend since we both made up on the football team and the basketball team, we were the only freshman made it too which make us feel special, ‘’What up D’’ I said doing our hand shaking, shake hand, pull back , run back, jump and bump to each other, sound cool huh?, ‘’did you see the new girl that move by your house, I heard she fine, you know what I’m saying you hit it or I’ll hit it, feel me’’  I nodded didn’t hear much of what he said, but lost when I see the caramel, thin girl walking back a front to the house, her short jeans pants show all her thigh, I never like thick girl but damn she fine, ‘’Yo Trav wake up man’’ D snapping her finger in my front, ‘’Yo man lets give them a hand’’ surprise by my own voice, ‘’Hell nah man’’ D said, I push him toward the garage truck and run up to a light skin woman maybe on her 40s ‘’Do you need any help madam ?’’ I asked politely trying to used proper grammar, ‘’thank you, you so generous but no’’ she said almost drop the lamp, I catch it for her and put give it to the pretty girl that I see standing in the doorway ‘’thanks ‘’ she said shyly, ‘’you welcome’’ I said, I was kind of feel nervous which I don’t know when I mostly get with most of the cheerleader in my school, not proud of it though it just cheerleader at Hurston high can’t keep their legs close, ‘’thank you young man’’ the lady said, I nodded, and walk back to my front door, ‘’man that lady tripping like we was going to stole her cheap ass lamp’’ D yammer, once again I didn’t hear shit he said we shake hand again and I walk inside my house, ‘’go washing up for dinner’’ my mom said screaming from the kitchen, the chicken nuggets already make my mouth watering, I went to take a quick shower and come sit for dinner, ‘’what I asked, when I finally realize that my mom was staring at me the whole time, ‘’That was so nice what you done to the neighbored’’ she said I nodded and put another chicken in my mouth.   Chapter twoSchool is tomorrow and for some reason I can’t wait to get back to school, it been two weeks since Taylor move next door, yes her name is Taylor, I don’t see her much unless she going somewhere and busy on busy mode because I have that big American history book and I think I should reading the chapter, yes I actually do homework because I need to go to college , to get my mom and my little sister out of Liberty city, only poor people mostly live there and I can’t see myself after 5 years but still here. ‘’Hey Trav’’ my little sister Tay said walking in my room my little sister real name is Taysha Walker ‘’How many time did I tell you to knock?’’ I asked she just shrug and smile, sit on my bed, my little sister had just turn ten, finally understand that our father is dead, my father died when I was 14 years old, that time I was in 8^th grade when they call me on the PC, when I walk in the office I found my mom seating with her head on her hand, ‘’mommy what’s wrong?’’ I asked her, my mother never pick me up from school, since kindergarten, when she look up, her eyes was wet with tears, ‘’It’s your father’’ she said looking away, ‘’what happen to daddy?’’ I asked squat by her, ‘’He got to an accident and-----‘’ she answer taking my hand walk out to the garage I couldn’t believe it he was there two hours ago, he said that he will be back at 6 after basketball practice, ‘’and?’’ I asked worried, ‘’he was dead the moment they found him’’ she said broken down I help mom to get in the car and we actually spent about hours sitting in the car, lost on our own thought, even though I was trying to be brave for my mom but not even a tears came out of my eyes. In the funeral I stand in front of the casket talking to my father, I didn’t know why I couldn’t cry but that I made him a promise that I will always do good in school, take good care of mom and will never stop playing sports, that day many people came to show respect, my father’s friend and family were there and even the drunk man who killed my father, ‘’What do you want?’’ I scream when the black young 18 years old boy standing at my parents door, ‘’Look man I’m really sorry for your lose’’ he said looking down, ‘’Do you think your sorry will help bring him back huh?’’, for the first time tears come out of my eyes, he pull me through his arm I actually broke down, I know it kind of sound gay but I couldn’t help it, I really had missed my dad, my mother asked him to come in and that day I learn that he had lost his little brother and went out for a drink, he didn’t want to hurt nobody but himself, his little brother got shot while him and his homeboys were playing football at the park, when his mom had told him to babysit his little brother, the bullet was for someone else but it hit the 6 years old boy, that I thought about my 7 years sister who I will kill anybody who try to hurt her. ‘’Trav are you okay?’’ Tay asked softly there I realize that I had tears in my face and she was hugging my arm, ‘’yeah am okay’’ I said hugging her, ‘’Now go to sleep it’s already 9 pm school tomorrow’’ I said closing the door behind me while seating on my bed listen to music, I see a shadow on my laptop screen when I look at my window I see it was Taylor who standing on her living room, looking at my window, I wave hi to her and she smile and wave back to he, ‘’see you tomorrow’’ she mouth, ‘’wait’’ I said get on my knees looking for my board and write ‘’what school you going to?’’ I asked, wanting to know badly, she laugh slightly showing her deep dimples, she answered me by showing me the number sign, I couldn’t believe that she actually asked me for my number, I wrote it down on the board, minute later my phone rang and saidTayTay: I’m going to Hurston High :) :)

Trav: I see you going all ghetto on me ^.*TayTay: I’m not ghetto but I have my moments sometimes, well only when I’m talking to my friend :)She just call me her friend we’ll see about that pretty soonTrav: I cTayTay: yeah I have to go I’ll see you tomorrow in the first block well you I need to make me a new friend since I’m new over there well bye good night :)Trav: okay gud night see you there.I put my blackberry phone in charge then go check on my little sister, I don’t want my mom to get off work and find her still up, when I check her room she was deep in her sleep, but something tell me that she not sleeping, shoo I do that too when my parents come check up on me, I still do it especially when I get a trouble, ‘’I know you not sleeping’’ I said she smirk from her sleep and seat up on her bed, ‘’Nothing I’m just too excited for school tomorrow I’m starting 5^th grades tomorrow next I will be in middle school’’ she said showing all her teeth, ‘’I know the feeling I can’t for school either’’, ‘’I know’’ she said pulling her bed sheet over her head, ‘’what you mean you know?’’ I asked pulling the bed sheet from her head, ‘’TayTay is going to the same school as you’’ she said smiling, ‘’so what the school is big that doesn’t mean we are going to be friend’’ I said trying to hide my feelings for her, ‘’true’’ she answer still not convinced, I walk to my room and get to bed. Chapter three‘’haaayyyy Trav’’ people would said every time they run up to me, for some reason I didn’t see TT today, I’m tired to call her TayTay so I give her my nickname TT not for Trav and Taylor but TT you know what I’m trying to say, most of the students would hugs their friend, holla at people didn’t see since school end, I spotted D standing in the fan by the basketball court, first day of school there’s nobody going to dirty their new uniforms and new Jordan 11 Retro Low, someone would get beat up if only they steps on their shoes, ‘Hey Trav’’ those cheerleaders girl sing together, I nodded at them they giggle and turn back to their conversation, who the cutest boy or who get pregnant this summer or who boy did they slept with, girls talk, ‘’what’s up Trav’’ D said when he see me, ‘’sup D’’ I said doing our shaking hands, slap hands, pull it back, run and bump to each other and laugh, ‘’Let me see your scheduled man I don’t think we have class together’’ he said I pull my scheduled on my packet and give it to him, ‘Darmn man what’s up with all those honors’’ he said I shrug then asked for his, D have all regular class and even failed biology, we only have one class together this year, English but I’m still honor ugh, I look at him and shake my head, ‘’What man so you think you better than me now? ‘’ he asked open his hands to get other people attention, I shake my head, not because I’m scared of D but because he my homeboy and he just want to get some attention, I put my back on the fan and stares at a freshman trying to make a shot, ‘’Yoo’’ I called him, and give him the sign to throw me the ball, ‘’Let me show you how you do it’’ I said, he smile at me and come close to me to see how I spot my hand on the ball, I’m 6’1 and still have to grow my father was 6’5 when he died, I always want to be like him, ‘’first you need to concentrate, have confidence, and relaxation, that’s the only three tips you need to know’’ he nodded slowly, I bounce the ball three time, my eyes fix in the net close every things around me and shoot, it get right in through it , ‘’That’s how you do it’’ I said proudly, which make me sound so much like my father, he try just how I thought him and he make the shot, ‘’good job’’ I said play with his hair just like my father used to do me, I run back standing by D and watch him do the basket one by one until the bell ring, D and I walk to the class looking for a back seat, when the teacher call out, ‘’No one seat in the back Mr. Walker this is your seat’’ he said pointing on the first seat, I shake my head, and walk back and seat on the desk, I don’t get it why is D get to seat on the back he need more attention then I do, I look around to spot TT but I couldn’t find her, ‘’My name is Mr. P and I’m your English teacher’’ she said, when someone run to the class, ‘’Sorry I’m late’’ she said shyly, ‘’You new ova here huh?’’ some girl behind me said, she nodded then spot for a seat, there was only one seat left which was by me  and I can tell she didn’t want to seat in the back either she seat next to me, I guess she didn’t realize that it was me well maybe because she didn’t want to eye other people, ‘’You late Ms. Jackson, I know it’s the first day of school, but after today I don’t want you to be in late in my class, are we clear?’’ she asked, drop a survey sheet on her desk, ‘’yes madam’’ she said taking the paper, ‘’Don’t worried you’ll love her’’ I said, eyeing my survey, ‘’I hope’’ she said without look up, ‘’yeah’’, I said smiling, when Mrs. P finish collect the survey she asked us to pick a partner for the school year project, this year I know for sure that I don’t want D for my partner because all he do is yammering about how stupid it is or how hard it is to find this in the internet, ‘’Oh wait, you will be present in front of the class’’,  she said going through her papers, ‘’Oh Ms. Taylor, you with Travis for your partner because he the only other Honor kid in the class’’ she said, ‘’why she get to choose but not us?’’ D asked, ‘’because your guys will plan to pick someone who going to do the work by themselves and expect a good grade and Trav is the only other Honor kid‘’ Mrs. P said ‘’o.o we have another nerd in the class’’ Kwynn shout from the back of the class. ‘’at least I have a brain Kwynn, what do you have?’’ I asked turned around to look at him, ‘’and he can play basketball and football’’ Sandra finished the whole class crack up, ‘’Shut up Sandra’’ he shout back, ‘’it’s be quiet Kwynn’’ Mrs. P. said through laugh, sometime Mrs. P. is worst then us, she will try you so bad, you will never want to come back the next day and she can also be the sweetest teacher ever and she can teach, through all the thinking I feel a look burning me, when I turn to my left I see Taylor looking at me, ‘’What? Oh do you want to be my partner?’’ I asked seriously, ‘’Nothing and do I have a choice?’’ she asked, I shake my head no, she roll her eyes as an answer I laugh, I don’t know every time I look at her eyes, I can see pain, someone who to be happy, someone who need to be hugged and there’s that electricity that goes through my vain, first time I think about a girl and I’m actually not turn on, maybe there’s was more to the story, when the bell ring, ‘’can I show you the way? Anyways we have Chemistry together, if you don’t want to be late again you should let me walk you’’ I said looking down at 5’4 girl that I can’t get my mind off, ‘’what ever’’ she said I take her hands and she stand freezing, ‘’what’s wrong?’’ I asked looking at her soft caramel skin, with a blue nails polish, ‘’don’t make me get beat up of something I don’t want’’ I drop her hand, ‘’something?’’ I asked, I was offended, a man was just trying to be nice, any girl would want me to walk them to class, think about holding their hands, I shook my head and walk away from her, she can find the class by herself, three minutes later after I get to the class, I see her walking her I look away like she didn’t exist, she passes by me staring at me I turn to talk to some girl, she was feeling it but that was my way to ignore Taylor, ‘’Welcome everyone my name is Ms. Collins and I will be your chemistry teacher for this year, to start with I want everyone to find a partner, you will learn something new about them then will share it with the class’’ the skinny white tall lady said, ‘’do we have to what if you already know them or they too rude and you don’t want to talk to them?’’ I asked, refer to Taylor, she roll her eyes once again I hope they stuck one day, ‘’Mr. Walker you have to and I don’t care you are going to used them as partner lab anyways’’ she said smiling at me, everyone already have a partner, I already know mostly all of them, Taylor didn’t have a partner, I seat down and plan to talk about myself as the new person I met, ‘’can I be your partner’’ she asked, ‘’why would you want to be partner of a thing, or simple is that you can just find a book Ms, Taylor’’ I said open my book start reading some random thing, ‘’what ever’’ she said, she love that two words, ‘’we will start on this side’’ Ms. Collins said pointing at Taylor, everyone turned to look at her, I can tell that she don’t like to talk in public, she start playing at her pen then I knew she was shaking, I used to do that when I was in the 3^rd grade, ‘’well I met a new person today, I learn that he don’t like me called as a thing, and he actually my first friend around her and on the first day I already offended him, so I’m sorry if you think I was rude’’, ‘’finish already, who did you met’’ some girl in the class shout, she look at her and smile, ‘’well his name is Travis’’ she said stares at me, I smile and nodded, ‘’can I go next’’ I asked, ‘’sure thanks for volunteer Mr. Walker’’, ‘’well the person I met is Taylor and even though she already pissed me off on the first day but I think she really cool and pretty’’ I said, I didn’t know how the last part came out but it was from my heart, she smiled and look away try to hide her blushing, ‘’no flirting Mr. Walker’’, the whole class laugh, I knew some girls in the class were started to give her stank eyes but she didn’t mind, maybe she didn’t realize that, many people goes tell about people they met. My classes go by fast, Taylor let me walk her to class well she don’t have no choice unless she want to be late again, and we even sit by each other, before lunchtime she went to the bathroom, I asked her if I can wait for her but she insist that I go and she’ll see me in the cafeteria, I find D and skip in the line, the security won’t tell me nothing because they think I deserve but not D, which sometimes pissed D off, while eating lunch with D and hit other three friends, we talk about basketball, football and how we can’t wait to start the season, only two of his friends play football with us, ‘’man who you looking for?’’ D asked, I realize that I can’t stop searching every corner in the cafeteria with my eyes, when I finally spot Taylor eating by herself in one of the nerd corner, ‘’imma see ya’ll guys later okay’’ I said taking my tray, and walk toward Taylor seat, she was put her eyes down when she see me coming, ‘’what’s up with I’ll see you in the cafeteria?’’ I asked, laughing, ‘’nothing I didn’t want to embarrassed myself by go seating on your guys table’’ she asked, ‘’are you saying that my friends and I are too dumb to seat with?’’ I asked crossing arms, and do girls gesture, she laughed so hard and shake her head no, ‘’what’’ she asked when she finally stop and find me staring at her, ‘’you have a beautiful smile you know that’’ I asked, ‘’thank you Trav, why are you being so nice?’’ she asked, ‘’ I don’t know’’ I said, I really didn’t know it just something about her, I can be the smart person around her, she don’t judge, ‘’sure’’ she said rolling her go seat on one of the bench, ‘’main reason why I move around her after my mom being sick and can’t work and my father I have to pay the whole bills, I had a boy’’ she said I seat by her, ‘’I had a boyfriend, he cheat on me with my best friend and even gets her pregnant, I hate them so much, I would do anything just to get them hurt, I would study everyday just to win this national competition, team had a meeting and, who will do this or that, I don’t think I want to be the captain, I’m the football team captain and the basketball that’s too much pressure for one guy, after that day I didn’t talk to TayTay until tomorrow on our classes, every lunch I would eat with her, we would go in the library, do homework and plan to start study for the SAT test, the only time I spoke to D it’s on our English class or when my mom not around and he come over to watch TV, ‘’do you know who get Tara pregnant?’’ I asked, that we actually order a pepperoni pizza, ‘’get over this girl man, she a bitch’’ he said, I shrug off then take a big bite on my pizza, my phone vibrate, I forgot to take it off vibration, it was TayTay calling me, I look at D and show him the phone scream, he shook his head then I walk in my room, ‘’hey TT’’ I said, she still didn’t answer, ‘‘TT?’’ I said, ‘’Trav’’ she finally answer, I realize that she sound like she was crying, ‘’what’s wrong TT?’’ I asked, ‘’it’s my mom’’ she said, ‘’what happen to her’’ I asked, she didn’t answer ‘’TT come in the backyard’’ I said, there’s only a fans that separate us from each other, I told D that he should go, ‘’well okay man se yall at skull’’ he said, we give our hand shake, he took another slice of pizza then walk out, I lock the front door and I walk outside with a flip-flop on with shorts and no shirt, I jump to her fan and there she broke in my arm, I feel so lost and ashamed that I can’t do nothing to help her, ‘’I’m sorry Trav, I didn’t mean to take you a shower with tears’’ she apologize, I was all wet with tears but I didn’t mind, ‘’nah you cool, so now tell me what’s up with your mom?’’ I asked, ‘’she have breast cancer Trav, she don’t have much time left’’ she said crying again, she put her head on my chest and cry her ass out, I find myself crying, ‘’wait how did you find this out?’’ I asked, I heard them arguing about it, whether to tell me or not, ‘’so your mother don’t have much time to live and you seat there crying, I thought you were smarter then that’’ I said, she look give me what the fuck wrong with you look, ‘’TT you should be happy, make her proud for the time she have left, do things you know she would love you to do, love her, if I a doctor had told me that my father was going to died I would have try all things just to make my old man proud’’ I said, I wipe her last tears, she smile. ‘’sorry about your father’’ she said hugging me tight, she never hold me that tight, she finally pull away then stand up and tell me she have to go, I jump back to my backyard when I heard her call my name, ‘’yes’’ I said in front of her, only the fans separate us, ‘’thank you’’ she said and pull me down and kissed me, I kissed her back, then again she pull away, we smile at each other then she wave me goodnight.   Chapter four‘’who and who else want to go compete, Mr. Walker? Mr. Vasquez asked our school principal, ‘’Travis this is not a easy competition’’ he said, ‘’I know Mr. Vasquez just let us try and me and Taylor Wright’’ I answered, he nodded then stand up to shake my hand, ‘’the school will provide everything you need to win this competition the school is counting on you’’ he said, I walkout of his office then take off my phone to text TT, I didn’t see her since yesterday afternoon.Trav: TT where are you?TayTay:  Library, you?’Trav: on my way to the libraryTayTay: ok, waiting for you :)Trav: :)I couldn’t wait to tell TT the news and now TT is for Trav and TayTay, if you didn’t know, people just call us TT when they refer to both of us, when I walk in the library, TT was wearing a white school T-shirt, with a blue skinny jeans, ‘’hey Trav’’ she said kissing me, ‘’ hey TT I have good news’’ I said, she stop what she doing and stare at me, ‘’we are going to the competition AGSQ’’ I said, AGSQ stand for all grades subject quiz, ‘’what how we going to do that Trav?’’ she asked standing up from her seat and start pacing in the room, ‘’chill okay we can do this, if you just trust me’’ I said she nodded then seat on her seat, ‘’we will compete on Algebra 2 , chemistry, English/Vocabulary, that’s it I think’’ I said, she shake her head yes then keep typing our English project, we are suppose to make a PowerPoint about Ernest Hemingway, I do about his death and childhood and end send to TT to put them together, yes I do my work too, ‘’what is this?’’ she asked when she look at the screen on my computer, ‘’I’m making flayer to put around the school, if we asked teacher to recommend their best student on each subject and from every period’’ she nodded, ‘’then we can see each of them techniques and pick the fastest and easiest technique to win’’ I said feeling proud about my idea, ‘’good, hi five’’ she said, ‘’don’t you think I work hard enough for a kiss?’’ I asked half joking, she laugh and kissed me, ‘’enough of the mutcha’’ a voice interrupt us when we turn it was Tara, she had her baby months ago, I was glad to be there holding her hand even though it wasn’t mine, my mother didn’t believe me when I told her that the baby wasn’t mine until Tara confirm her, after the baby Tara and I are cool, she even friend with TT, ‘’hey Tara’’ we said together, ‘’what is this’’ she asked pointing at my computer, I explain the same thing to her she nodded carefully, ‘’I know who can help, he soo good at math’’ she said, ‘’who’’ we both asked, ‘’me’’ she said, we both laugh, not because it was funny but because we though she was joking, until she stand up crossing her, staring down at us, ‘’I’m serious’’ she said, ‘okay do this’’ TT said writing down a math problem, on five min she was done we both look at each other, then check the answer on Google, ‘’it took me more than 5 min to do this problem’’ TT said, ‘’welcome to the team’’ I said poking her belly, she laugh, proud of what she done then take a chair and seat by us, we go over on the plan and start putting up flayer around the school.
